Who are you?

I’m a Dutch portrait photographer. I work for magazines, newspapers and corporate media. I also photograph landscapes and occasionally shoot a reportage.

What are you inspired by?

Recently I watched the tv series Real Humans and after I photographed some portraits inspired by what I saw. I know it sounds corny but I find inspiration in almost everything around me.

What was the last movie you watched?

The Theory of Everything, about the life of scientist Stephan Hawking.

What was the last book you read?

I mostly read poetry, the last book was by Lars van der Werf. He’s a poet from my hometown Rotterdam.

Do you have any role model?

No, I don’t have specific role models in photography. But I do admire some photographers for their skills.

I love Elliott Erwitt’s street photography; a glimpse into his world, filled with humor, love and friendship. When it comes to portraits, it’s Irving Penn for me. His photographs are compelling with a perfect simplicity.

What is your next creative project?

Something totally different from what I’m used to do! I’m currently working on a new series of landscapes inspired by works of Dutch painter Mondriaan.

What do you like about Portfoliobox?

I used to have a photoblog, this is my first portfolio website. Earlier this year I started building a website with Wordpress but experienced a lot of difficulties. Portfoliobox however is very user friendly and versatile. I started designing and my site was online in no time. Suits me well, since I’d rather spend my time photographing!
