Portfolio of the day
Who are you?
I’m a 20 year old, South African born university student living in Brisbane, Australia. I love to create imagery that evokes emotion and inspires people.
What are you inspired by?
I find inspiration in the most authentic things of this world - an adventure in the mountains, the simplicity of the olden days before technology, and true human connection.
What was the last movie you watched?
Brooklyn, directed by John Crowley.
What was the last book you read?
Rumours of Another World by Philip Yancey, it deals with life’s big existential questions, what it really means to be human, and challenges the increasingly popular idea of reductionism. Great read!
Do you have any role model?
I’d probably have to say both of my grandfathers. They are such honourable men who grew up in a time long before the often impatient, and disconnected age of the internet. I think much of my love for photography is due to the idea of capturing a unique moment in time that will be looked back on as I do with photographs of my ancestors.
What is your next creative project?
I recently purchased my first film camera - the Nikon F2! I’ve been obsessed with the idea of film for a while now and finally decided to go for it. I love that you don’t see the image instantly as we do today with cameras on our smartphones. It’s a single frame, a snapshot in time, and far more meaningful than spending hours looking through a viewfinder, shooting a hundred images and discarding the ones you don’t want. You’re forced to make every exposure count. So I think it will make me a more thoughtful photographer. Film is such a beautiful and unique medium of storytelling, I would love to be a part of keeping it alive.
What do you like about Portfoliobox?
As a photographer, I love the simplicity above all else. It’s easy to use, and displays my images beautifully.Visit site
