Portfolio of the day
Who are you?
I'm an illustrator and storyteller from Devon, England. Some of my favourite things are drinking tea, feeling cosy, and the colour yellow. I probably draw too many dogs.
What are you inspired by?
I'm inspired by children's picture books, which can be warm and funny and very wise all at the same time. I also draw ideas from nature, animals, colours and patterns - especially wallpaper and curtains.
What was the last movie you watched?
I'm terrible for falling asleep during movies! But the last one I watched all the way through was Ruby Sparks, which was sweet and witty and quite dark. I love it when sweet things have a dark undertone.
What was the last book you read?
I think it was a book on allotments! I moved into a new house with a big garden this year, so I'm learning to grow vegetables and need lots of help.
Do you have any role model?
Hmm. Work-wise if I could imbue my writing and illustration with a fraction of the wisdom and whimsy Tove Jansson did I'd be happy. Other than that I don't really aim to be like anyone in particular, I just muddle my way through as best I can.
What is your next creative project?
I'm working on a range of Dogs in Jumpers greetings cards and a picture book I'm really excited about. I'm also performing a shadow puppetry show in the autumn, which seems ages away but has to be planned quite far in advance!
What do you like about Portfoliobox?
I like how I've been able to make a website that looks unique, rather than just a template. I wanted something simple that didn't detract from the illustration and is really customisable, which Portfoliobox is. Oh, and easy to use since I'm too busy to spend hours getting frustrated with technology. Oh, oh, and they're so friendly and helpful too!
