Who are you?

I'm a freelance photographer based in Tokyo. At the age of 30, I quit my job in the construction industry, and devoted myself to photography full-time.

I mainly take pictures of urban landscapes and architecture. At the age of six, I was captivated by “the chaos of Gotham City” depicted by producer Tim Burton in “Batman”, the first movie I ever saw. Sometime later, I became interested in the cityscape of New York, and now I travel there once a year to take aerial photographs.

Most of the pictures of night views that I take were inspired by illustrations from Gotham city.

As I am still a fledgling photographer, most of the pictures that I provide are sold via the Getty Images. The pictures that are taken of Tokyo and New York have been published in a wide variety of advertisements and media.

What is your next creative project?

This year, I will take aerial night views of my beloved Tokyo.

Tokyo is the greatest metropolitan district in the world, as recognized by the United Nations. I would like to communicate its beauty to many people.

How would you describe your work?

When I take photographs, in addition to being constantly aware of the need to produce high quality and what the market is looking for, I focus on views of the world and depictions unique to me. As we are now in an age in which job requests come via SNS, uploading pictures to SNS is a daily task.

Actually, it is due to SNS that I have received a photography project covering the athletes’ village in the Tokyo Olympics to be held in 2020.

Moving forward, in addition to just providing photographs, I am studying a number of fields with the goal that my photography will be able ot draw out the attractive qualities of a number of things, such as people and regions, and architecture.

Who are your biggest influences in the industry?

That would have to be another Japanese photographer Takashi Yasui. He was the second Japanese photographer to have his photographs used for the Apple product wallpaper and he is photographer who has worked on a wide range of projects, both domestically and overseas.

What do you want your viewers to take away from your work?

I have been taking pictures in Tokyo and New York based on the theme “breath of the city”. Although the city has an inorganic appearance, it is alive, absorbing sunlight and breathing. I want the people looking at these various landscapes, introducing you to the charms of the city, to be filled with a sense of longing and enchantment.

What do you like about Portfoliobox?

More than anything, I feel it has a strong sense of design. It is as if it was a tool made for the creator. I also like the fact that this is very easy to do editing. As I only have a very basic knowledge of programming this is very helpful.
