Tell us a bit about yourself
Hi! My name is YuTing Rachel Kao. I am a Taiwanese born, Montreal based model and singer.
I enjoy art in all forms, I have appreciation towards different creatives and their visions, I try to incorporate and showcase that in my own work as well.
The most fulfilling part of what I do is being able to connect with different artistic souls and get to experience a little piece of their beautiful complexity.
Tell us about one of your favourite projects and what inspired you to do it
One of my favorite projects thus far has to be the one I did with Nanne Springer, she is simply one of the most otherworldly artists out there. Her creative visions are innovative, brave, yet very delicate.
Our shoot was very intimate and secluded, I felt safe in the presence of Nanne. As humans, we all have insecurities towards our bodies, but because of this project I experienced a big breakthrough.
Nanne showed me a different side of myself and I will forever be grateful for that.
What are you working on at the moment?
Currently I am focusing on my music projects.
As someone who is also a vocalist, I want to write and sing songs that resonate with people. We've all had so many unique experiences, and yet oftentimes, music makes us feel like we're not alone--we're all connected.
Who are your biggest influencers in the industry?
In terms of artistic vision, I have to say my biggest influences are Taiwanese photographers Zhong Lin @zhonglin_ and Zhang Ahuei @zhang_ahuei, and the innovative and dreamy Domenico Falso @nicholas.fols.

Tell us why it's important for you to have a portfolio website
I believe it is important to have a website to showcase your artwork, especially if you are a creative individual.
It is necessary to gather all your favorite projects in one place, not only for others to see but for yourself to revisit.
As a model what are your tips in building a portfolio website?
As a minimalist, I like to keep my portfolio clean, simple, and straight forward.
It should be organized and updated regularly. I encourage artists to start building their websites early, and not be discouraged by the amount of projects they've produced. It's not about the quantity, but the quality.
How do you market yourself?
I make sure to put my website, and my social media accounts in my email signature, so whomever may be interested in seeing more of my work could have a direct link to all my platforms.
