Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Aurélien Longo, I grew up in France near Bordeaux and I have been living in Germany for ten years. I do photography in my spare time, aside of my daily job as a Design-Director.

When I was a kid, my pockets were full of tiny little pebbles I would collect along the way. I like to think this was my way of keeping memories of the present moment. Nowadays, I use my camera to seize my surroundings and turn the little stories of the everyday life into visual poetries.

Tell us about one of your favourite projects and what inspired you to do it

My first photography project was called “Sounds of Electric Dust”. It was a series of photos I took in several locations around the world (mostly Chicago, Paris and Guangzhou), where I used to travel for work, for very short periods of time, between 2017 and 2019.

Most of the photos were shot at night during my after-work lonely wanderings on the streets. I always had the same mixed-feelings in mind : being curious as well as feeling anxious and lost in these unfamiliar places.

During the editing of the project, it was very important to me to remember this state of mind in order to create a cohesive series.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am currently working on probably the most personal and intimate project I have ever worked on so far. It is a collection of photos of my family-in-law I took during the past six or seven years, and it will take the form of a photo-reportage combining all the little poetries and beautiful stories I see in the daily life of my in-laws.

Tell us why it's important for you to have a website

It has always been very important to me to show my work online, whether it is to get feedbacks on my work or simply to connect with people. Before using Portfoliobox, I used to publish my photos on my blog, but it had many constraints on top of not looking very serious and professional. Now that I have my own website, I use it as my portfolio to showcase my latest photography projects, as well as selling prints in my store page.

As a photographer what are your tips in building a good website?

I believe the simplest things are the best. When building my website, it was very important to me to have a very clear and cohesive presentation. I like to think of the way I would exhibit my work in the real world, in an art-gallery for example.

How do you market yourself?

I mainly use instagram but I wouldn't say I am very good at it...

Why do you use Portfoliobox?

I think I have been using Portfoliobox since the very beginning and I have always been very satisfied with their services. They kept bringing new features and improved the designs of the templates very well over the years. It is very easy to use , and whenever I had an issue, the customer service was always very reactive to provide the help I needed.
