Tell us a bit about yourself

I am Vlad Zakirov, an architect and interior designer. In 2015, I graduated from Wrocław University of Science and Technology with a master’s degree in architecture (specialization is reconstruction and renovation). From 2015 to 2017, I worked at the architectural firm “NA NO WO Architekci” in Wroclaw (Poland). In 2017, I moved to Valencia (Spain) and began independent professional activity. I have a number of publications in various architectural digests; one of the projects was nominated for the ArchDaily Building of the Year Award. My main activity is the interior creation, renovation and modernization of houses.

Tell us about one of your favourite projects and what inspired you to do it

I would highlight the project of renovation and reconstruction of a house near Valencia "House 180". It was one of the most challenging and interesting projects I have ever had. The house is situated on the top of a hill and offers a stunning view from the plot, which the client immediately fell in love with. Nevertheless, the house itself did not meet his needs at all. With a very impressive square of 390 m2, the house had a lot of small rooms. There was neither representative day area nor a comfortable master bedroom. The main drawback was that the key feature of the house, the view, was not taken advantage of. There were few windows, they were all small, and there was no main view terrace. We faced quite a difficult task – to open up the interior space as much as possible, expand the existing window openings, add new ones and build terraces. In particular, I would like to mention the pool, which we rebuilt from scratch. All this was complicated by the fact that the scheme of the house was irregular, somewhere there were columns, somewhere there were walls and consoles and not to mention that all this was on a steep relief. As for the design, we took white as a basis using natural materials such as wood, glass, and stone. The interior turned out to be timeless, moderate and comfortable.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am working on several projects at the moment, this is flat interior design and the renovation of a huge house. There will be a lot of interesting and unconventional solutions in the house. For example, a palm tree growing out of a pond in the middle of the house or a luminous onyx in the day area.

Who are your biggest influencers in the industry?

I prefer to follow the development of the industry as a whole, but if I have to single out someone, it would be Slava Balbek, Fran Silvestre, Renzo Piano, Karim Rashid and Naoto Fukasawa.

What was the last thing that inspired you?

Font wall decals, Japanese samurai, antique sculpture in a modern interpretation and large cactus.

Tell us why it's important for you to have an architect portfolio website

A website is an essential attribute of a commercial organisation. If you do not have a stylish, functioning website, customers will not take you seriously.

As a professional architect what are your tips in building an architect portfolio website?

Make all pages in a general style, pay attention to fonts and indents, do not upload many photos for each project, choose the fifteen-thirty best. Do not make a "blog" or "news" page unless you plan to update it regularly. Before creating your site, look at more examples and already implemented ideas.

How do you market yourself?

Social media advertising and customer recommendations.

Why do you use Portfoliobox?

Because of its intuitive interface, great personalization features and the possibility of editing at any time.
