Portfolio of the week
Who are you?
My name is Jakob Bäckrud and I am a 22-year-old guy from Sweden. I love to create art in different forms. Music, videos, images and animation are very exciting things that takes up very much of my freetime. I love to create things that I wasn't able to do before and in this way develop my skills.
What is your next creative project?
My upcoming project is to create more and more realistic looking, so called, ”renders” (images produced using a 3D- software) and also animations. I've been looking into visualization a lot and nowadays it is possible to build up a room in 3D and render it out to look very close to real life. This can be done at home using only a computer and some skills. My next big project although is to create a second animated short film with a narrative and a few characters interacting.
How would you describe your work?
I create all sorts of things using a 3D- software called Blender (this is a free, open-source software that anyone can download and use in anyway they like). I create realistic looking environments and objects for visualization and also animations in 2D and 3D. My most exciting projects have been about creating unrealistic things that look somehow realistic. A ”furry” car, a drum set made of fabric or a soda can made of tree, growing from the ground. I have never decided to really focus on one particular area when creating my projects. Such as just doing interior design, abstract images, characters, models, simulations, animations, visualization or VFX for example. I try to do what is challenging and also developing for me and that is why 3D softwares such as Blender are so amazing. The possibilities are endless. There are more things to try and learn than anyone could manage. Allways a new mountain to climb!
Who are your biggest influences in the industry?
I look up to Pixar Animation Studios very much. They have always been creating fascinating animated works that inspires me and they still do. Probably, their movies inspired my journey to start learning this craft. Some other people worth mentioning here are Gleb Alexandrov and Andrew Price (a.k.a “Blender Guru”) who, through their tutorials, taught me a lot about 3D workflow.
What do you like about Portfoliobox?
Portfoliobox is a great way of getting your work out there. It is very, very simple to create a good looking webpage where you can upload all your work to have it displayed in one place. I never have to do any sort of programing. I just upload my newest images and then it updates immediately on my personal page. Running my page recently helped me get a job in the industry. The work you are proud of should always be available for other people to enjoy and share and this is a great place for it, you never know where publishing could take you!Visit site
