Who are you?

I’m an artist and dad of two. I graduated from Art school in 2001 and lived and worked in London for a while. Needing to earn a living, I stopped painting for a while and worked as a graphic designer. But life in a suit wasn’t for me and in 2007 I picked up a paintbrush again and luckily, haven’t looked back. I now live and work in the wild and inspiring Lake District, Cumbria and have global representation. My work centres on contemporary seascape and landscapes paintings, abstract paintings and also contemporary portraiture paintings, although I only create a handful of this last every year. The styles are very different but all strive to generate a sense of intimacy and isolation while leaving the subject open to interpretation. The Seascape and Landscapes paintings are created from memories rather than images to produce finished pieces, resulting in more abstracted and expressive pieces than realistic. The portraiture has a different angle and the aim is to reinvent the mass produced and give it a more visceral interpretation. All the paintings for sale are original art created using oil paint.

Found in private and public collections worldwide, my main aim is to create work that is most definitely painted; an antidote to mass produced visuals consumed everyday. This is accomplished by using rich textures, multiple layers and brush/palette knife marks. I want my  paintings to tease out more than the eye can see, to draw people in and invite them to experience – not just consume – an image. My paintings can be seen online but are also represented by many galleries, some of which also sell the works of Picasso, Hirst, Rothko, Matisse, Newman and Warhol, as well as many other revered artists.

What is your next creative project?

I will be working on a series of new portrait paintings which will be exhibited at some of the U.K’s art fairs and galleries. I have also started delving into the world of photography, which I hope to partner with my landscape and seascape paintings.

What do you like about Portfoliobox?

After graduating in fine art, I found myself working in Graphic and web design. I have always designed my own website and marketing materials, however, Portfoliobox is just easy to use and intuitive. It basically takes the ball ache out of web design and content management. Its simplicity is a big draw and just makes life easier!
