Who are you?
I was born in Baghdad and grew up in various countries (my father was a seismologist in oil exploration) and now have dual Australian-British citizenship. I attended the Bournemouth College of art as a mature student in the early 90’s before becoming a picture editor and progressing on to management with large online startups. I returned to my roots after the internet crash of the late 90's and started up as a freelance photographer at the turn of the century.
My portraits are largely environmental and I try to depict all subjects, of whatever background as if their image will still be looked at generations from now. I like my images to leave the viewer with questions, to leave them wondering about the subject.
What is your next creative project?
I plan to substantially step up work on my project of British sculptors. I get a frisson of excitement working with important artists who are not only and invariably fascinating people but also understand the photographer's process. I find it both humbling and encouraging to spend time with them.
What do you like about Portfoliobox?
Portfoliobox is great because it is intuitive yet allows a great deal of customisation without looking formulaic. I have had other people build my websites and I have worked with WordPress and Muse but simplicity quickly turns to complexity when trying to achieve the same individuality you achieve quickly with Portfoliobox. Now I am able to add and adjust easily without having to get someone else to do it or spend valuable time reacquainting myself with the technical. i.e. as a photographer, I don’t have the time to be doing website maintenance enough to stop me forgetting how to do it!
