Portfolio of the day
Who are you?
I’m Pete Ware, a UK based illustrator/designer who works under the name 17th & Oak. I create and sell illustrative art prints based around pop culture. I’ve had work exhibited all over the world including Paris and the 2015 San Diego Comic Con.
What are you inspired by?
Music is one of my main inspirations. I’ve always felt that music is the fuel of life so I like to celebrate that with my art.
What was the last movie you watched?
The Revenant. A movie that I stupidly skipped when it was on at the cinema. Such a great looking film that needs to be watched on the largest screen possible.
What was the last book you read?
I tend to read more comics than books. I’m currently working my way through the back catalogue of Darkhorse’s Star Wars comics. There are thousands of them so it’s going to take a while.
Do you have any role model?
There’s quite a few artists I look up to. My favourite illustrators are Jamie Hewlett, Jim Mahfood and Tomer Hanuka. Each of them are extremely talented and that talent has given them the opportunity to create such interesting and unique projects.
What is your next creative project?
I’m currently working on a range of prints titled ‘Miles of Music' that focus on genres of music and the places associated with them. For example, Grunge was born in Seattle. Motown was born in Detroit. I’ve created them in the style of retro travel and concert posters. It’s fun and interesting researching the roots and myths of different styles of music and then turning my findings into a piece of art.
What do you like about Portfoliobox?
I find Portfoliobox simple to use. It boasts an extremely diverse amount of options to get your website looking how you want and because of it’s ease of use it never feels overwhelming. Websites are a necessary evil for me but Portfoliobox made the creation of my site, including a shop to sell my work, effortless.Visit site
