Who are you?
My name is Thomas Johansson, a passionate amateur photographer based in Stockholm, Sweden. I bought my first camera in 1985 and started to explore the world through the lens. Since then I always have had a passion for landscape and travel photography.
My focus now is the Nordic landscape with its immense diversity and the dramatic seasonal changes up here in the north. Photography means mindfulness to me. Walking alone through a peaceful forest with the camera makes my mind completely focused and without interfering thoughts. It's a moment of magic!
What are you inspired by?
Nature is a great source of inspiration by itself. The first rays of sunlight on a serene summer morning or the sight of rolling fog over a colorful autumn landscape brings a lot of energy to me. I enjoy many sources of inspiration on the Internet – viewing the works of other photographers is a great way to learn and be inspired.
What was the last movie you watched?
James Bond 007 Spectre - elegance and action in an irresistible combination. Bond is always Bond!
What was the last book you read?
A Beautiful Anarchy – When the life creative becomes the life created by the Canadian photographer David Duchemin.
Do you have any role model?
The Swedish landscape photographer Serkan Günes creates excellent pieces of art. His philosophy of “slow photography” resonates very well with my own way of approaching the landscape with my camera. I often return to Serkan’s website and books to learn more.
What is your next creative project?
Right now I am hibernating and awaiting the return of daylight to my part of the world! Early summer and autumn are my favorite seasons and trips to several places are planned for 2016. Rondane National Park in Norway and Gotska Sandön in the Baltic Sea are at the top of my wish list.
