Table of Contents
Portfoliobox is committed to improving accessibility and SEO across your portfolio website, and our latest update is a significant step forward. We are excited to announce that alt-text can now be added not only to gallery and product images but also to cover images and single-image elements. This enhancement allows for better image descriptions, thereby improving accessibility and search engine optimisation.
The importance of Alt-Text
Alt-text (alternative text) is crucial for making web content accessible to individuals who use screen readers. It also plays a significant role in SEO by providing search engines with context for images, which can help rank your site in image search results. Previously, the ability to add alt-text in Portfoliobox was limited to gallery and product images, which restricted full accessibility and SEO benefits.
What’s new
With this update, you can now add alt-text to:
- Cover images: These are the background images on cover pages, often the first visual contact a visitor has with a website. Adding alt-text to these images improves the accessibility of your site right from its main entrance.
- Single image elements: Whether added through the 'Add Element Below' function or incorporated within any page template featuring a single image, these elements can now have alt-text. This update is particularly beneficial for sites where single images convey important content or messages.
- Item images in collections pages: Alt-text can now be added to images on pages within the collections category, such as Link Pages, Services, Team, Logos, Testimonials, and Event Lists. This enables a more comprehensive application of accessibility features, ensuring that even more parts of your website are optimised for users with screen readers and for search engines.
