Who are you?

My name is Kate McKay and I an Australian artist who explores through painting my relationship with nature. My latest exhibition features urban gardens and seeks a new way of thinking about these little pockets of paradise that sit within our busy streets.

What are you inspired by?

I’m inspired by the city I live in, wilderness landscapes, vibrant colours, patterns, artists, movies and fashion. The feel of the paint as you push it around with a brush is a very inspiring act for me too.

What was the last movie you watched?

The last movie I watched was The Revenant at the drive in cinemas. The beautiful and harsh landscapes that were captured in the film were absolutely divine!

What was the last book you read?

The last book I read was Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. I love the way Kafka is able to transform mundane reality into something completely twisted and mysterious. I’m currently reading Unruly Places: Lost Spaces, Secret Cities, and Other Inscrutable Geographies by Alastair Bonnett which I highly recommend.

Do you have any role model?

An artistic role model would have to be David Hockney – I think he is a painting legend. My friends and family (particularly my big sister) are my role models too.

What is your next creative project?

I’ve just completed a new series of works for my latest exhibition so I haven’t got any solid plans for my next project yet. I’m going to Europe for the first time this year so I’m sure my future work will be informed by this experience in many ways.

What do you like about Portfoliobox?

I had no experience with building a website before I used Portfoliobox and found it so easy to use. If I can use the website anyone can! I think the sleek contemporary layouts are a wonderful way to showcase my work – the designs enhance (rather than detract) my artwork.

Who are you?

My name is Linnea Herner, and I am a professional retoucher based in Sweden. I was born in beautiful Stockholm and spent most of my life there. One year ago I moved to a cozy small town in western Sweden to work in one of Scandinavia's busiest fashion studios. I have always loved all types of art and became obsessed with photography in my early teens, and later studied it for two years. During that time I also discovered the joy of retouching, and spent most of my free time learning new things, theories and techniques. Today, being a part of the creative process of making an image is one of the most joyful things I know. I love working closely together with people and helping them complete and perfect their original idea.

What are you inspired by?

People who defy social, environmental or physical obstacles and succeed in their chosen field based on sheer passion and personal drive. I am especially lucky to be able to work with an amazing group of creative and dedicated people, who inspire me to do my very best every day.

What was the last movie you watched?

Inside Out. I absolutely adore animated movies! Watching them, and knowing that so many different people with different skills, life experiences, and dreams for the future worked on it together and did their best for such a long time to create something beautiful and meaningful for this generation's children really warms my heart. Plus, they're fun!

What was the last book you read?

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

Do you have any role model?

My dad. He is the most hard working, persistent person I know, and still he always finds the time to help others with a smile on his face. He is constantly inspiring me to do the right thing, push through hard times, and encourages me to truly believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even if I can't see it at the time. He also showed me of the most important things in life; singing like nobody is listening (even though they are, and are covering theirs ears and making faces like they are in pain) because not being perfect at doing something you love should never stop you from doing it.

What is your next creative project?

I am currently working on creating actions and a panel for Photoshop, which will aid people in achieving high quality retouching results and photo filter effects with minimal effort on their part.
